  • The Blaskets consists of seven islands – Great Blasket Island ( Blascaod Mór ); Inishvickillaun ( “Dálaighs” or “ Charlies ” island); Inish na Bró; Tiaracht (Western island ); Inish Tuaisceart ( Northern island, The Dead Man, The Sleeping Giant ); Beginish (Small Island ); Oileán na n-Óg (Island of the Young – sometimes called the Sí, or faeries)
  • The Great Blasket Island being the largest of the Blasket archipelago.
  • The Blasket island was inhabited until 1953.
  • At its peak the island have roughly 180 residence.
  • The Blasket is renowned for its storytellers including Peig Sayers and Thomas O’Criomhthain.

Things to look out for on the 20 minutes boat journey to the Blasket Island

  • Short dinghy ride from boat to slipway

  • Dunmore head the most westerly land point in Europe
  • Sea life a chance of spotting Dolphins, Whales, Basking sharks, Seals, Porpoises etc
  • Bird life chance of seeing Puffins, Cormorants, storm petrels, Gannets

  • OPW Island tour a free guided tour of the Blasket Island village giving a talk of the history of the island and the way of the Islanders
  • Ireland hike a three hour walk around the Blasket
  • Beach relax and soak up the sun on this beautiful beach. Due to the very strong tidal currents swimming is not advised

  • Second largest grey seal colony in Europe
